THE JOURNEY FAMILY TRAITS
Know Truth:
The Scriptures are not an end in and of themselves but point toward the person and work or Jesus Christ. He is the way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). It is by knowing Jesus Christ and placing our faith in Him, not just knowing about Him or knowing of Him (even demons know – James 2:19), that we can be saved. The scriptures reveal to us the truth of the law, grace, and redemption which we can trust. Paul states in 2 Timothy 3 that, “all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” God has revealed himself directly through them and they are reliable for revealing the Truth and truths of God.
Respond To Truth:
We want love in motion and Truth lived out. When Truth and love collide with the heart, it cannot remain static (James 2:20). We express God’s truth when we respond to the Love that he has shown us. We respond to God in worship, in giving, serving the body of Christ, in serving each other, and living a life that reveals God’s Truth to others. We have spiritual gifts that God has given us and we are meant to use those for the sake of His glory and His kingdom. God uses our natural talents and abilities such as intellectuals studying for Him, construction workers building as unto God, artists creating for Him, etc, but also empowers believers with "spiritual gifts" which are given by God specifically for the worked of His Kingdom, and may or may not be tied directly to our natural talents and training. Whatever we do as we live, work, and play we do it all for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).
Be In Community:
Simply put, we need each other. We believe that God has created us to rely on each other for companionship/camaraderie, to serve one another (Phil 2:3-7), for help when we are in need (Ecc. 4:12), and to help us in our growth towards Christ through accountability and the “sharpening” of our faith (Pr. 27:17). For this to work effectively, we must find a community where we can seek out authenticity (Eph 4:25) to know others and be known. In Acts 2, this took place as the first century church met in the temple courts (our Sunday morning gatherings) and in house to house settings (Small Groups & Bible Studies). Jesus also models this for us as He taught to large groups and retreated into smaller groups (the disciples and many times just three of them). We believe in engaging the whole model of Scriptural community, both large and intimate, and we hope you'll get involved!
Live Missionally:
Our God is a “going” God who stepped out of heaven to become human in the form of Jesus Christ to provide a way for salvation and the great commission tells us to “Go and make disciples.” This means it is incredibly important for us to live among the cultures around us and to be a presence of Truth and Christ’s love to the world that they would be drawn to Him. As a church, we seek to live out the love and grace of Christ daily as we go into the world around us... naturally drawing others first to Christ, and then to His church. As individuals, God designed us intentionally and with purpose for our “determined” times and we want to live life intentionally and with purpose for God as He has placed us in our neighborhoods, schools, jobs, gyms, coffee shops, grocery stores, and any other audience He gives us.
